Why personal training?

There are many reasons you might want to take on a PT - no longer are they just for the rich and famous!

  • You might not be seeing the results you expect with your current workout
  • You might be bored with what you are doing and need more motivation to get things going again.
  • You could be training for a specific event like a 10k run or half marathon
  • Perhaps you have an active holiday like a skiing trip on the horizon.
  • You prefer to workout at home as opposed to a gym and prefer the direct supervision and support (and challenges!) that a PT can provide.

Or it may be a combination of all of these. Either way, there are many benefits to be gained from working with a PT and you will find that you will make much greater gains in less time than you would through working alone or in a 'normal' gym.

How it works

1. Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is a sit down chat between John and yourself and is used to establish why you want to employ a PT, what you hope to gain and generally discuss how the training will work. There is no charge for this and you are under no obligation to take things any further if you decide personal training is not for you. If you do decide to take things further, the next steps are to decide on the training package you want to follow and of course fill in some paper work...

  • PAR-Q (Pre Activity Readiness Questionnaire)
  • Lifestyle questionnaire
  • Terms and conditions confirming training arrangements.

2. Week 0 - fitness assessments and goal setting
Once you have decided you do want to employ a PT, the first session is all about establishing your current fitness level using a variety of different fitness tests and measurements. These are then used as a starting point from which short, medium and long term goals can be established and your programme is designed towards achieving these.

4. Session 1, 2, 3....
Now we have a starting point and some goals, the training really starts! You will receive your own personal programme to follow between sessions and depending on the training package you have signed up to, you might see John twice a week, once a week, once every other week and so on. Each session lasts an hour and can be held in your home, in one of the many parks around Cambridge, or in a private gym in the centre of Cambridge. Each session is tailored towards achieving your goals and progress towards these goals is monitored at regular intervals. John also makes sure that each session is as much fun as possible - it sounds obvious, but people do tend to work harder when they are enjoying themselves!
